Spirit of Ramadan: 5 Charities to Support During Ramadan

Giving Zakat and Sadaqah during Ramadan is considered a glorious holy activity. It is regarded as worship and self-purification to provide a portion of one’s wealth to charity. Ramadan is a time to remember we are all connected and enhance our relationships with others. It is essential to know that charity is one of Islam's five pillars of duty during this time. We understand the importance of charity and doing your part as a member of this global community. Here are five charities you can support during this holy month.

Islamic Relief Worldwide

Islamic Relief is a faith-inspired humanitarian and development agency working to save and transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable people. Established in 1984, this charity works with over 45 countries assisting individuals, families, and communities through emergency response and development projects that help over 10 million people annually.

Harness the power of Zakat and Sadaqah and donate generously during Ramadan.

Hidaya Foundation

Since 1999, the Hidaya Foundation has served the poor and in need worldwide through social welfare, education, healthcare, self-employment, and environmental projects. The Hidaya Foundation collects and distributes Zakat donations per Islamic guidelines. Zakat, Fidya, and Sadaqah funds support orphans, widows, poor elderly, families in extreme poverty, poor young women for marriage, deserving students, medical patients, and people affected by disasters.

The International Charity Organization has been addressing all the needy in the world from the UAE. Founded in 1984, the ICO is considered a pioneering institution in the charitable and humanitarian field. It effectively contributes to developing the life conditions of the needy towards achieving sustainable development and a healthy, decent life for all.

Save The Children

In 1919, the Save the Children Fund was created to raise much-needed funds to end children’s suffering across war-torn Europe. Today, the organization works worldwide to give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and provide protection from harm. When a crisis strikes, our children are most vulnerable, Save the Children are always among the first to respond and the last to leave.

Muslim Global Relief

The Muslim Global Relief has been “Bringing Hope to Life” for over 20 years alleviating world poverty and hunger and providing humanitarian relief in over 40+ countries worldwide. The charity was awarded the UK’s Best Muslim Charity of the Year in 2018 and a finalist in 2019 at the National British Muslim Awards. From building mosques to providing clean water, MGR is committed to operating at a 100% donation policy, which means every single penny donated is used strictly for charitable efforts.

Other Ways to Give Back

You can also do your part by supporting your local masjid. Continue attending daily prayer as much as possible and contribute when possible. Being an active member of your masjid can help expand and grow your community. Volunteer to work when you can and donate drinks and food for nightly Quran readings if possible. Contact your local mosque and learn how to do your part for your local community.

You can also help communities in Türkiye and surrounding regions affected by the February 6 earthquakes. MyUS has asked members to help and provide aid through cash donations and supplies.
