Vitamin C is a key compound in the body’s “antioxidant network,” a chain of synergistic, inextricability linked, well-studied antioxidants that includes glutathione (GSH) and vitamin E. When vitamin E uses its antioxidant function in neutralizing free radicals, it also loses this antioxidant function. Vitamin C can change this status; it can regenerate vitamin E back to its native form, and is thought to “spare” glutathione in the body as well. Importantly, when ascorbate donates an electron and becomes itself oxidized, or “consumed,” the ascorbate radical is relatively harmless. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which blood GSH was measured in healthy subjects at several stages, 500 mg of vitamin C taken daily for 2 weeks significantly raised erythrocyte (red blood cell) glutathione levels. The researchers concluded that vitamin C supplementation at that level can benefit the overall antioxidant capacity of the blood. In another study of similar design, 1000 mg of vitamin C taken daily for 4 weeks bolstered vitamin E and glutathione content in erythrocyte cell membranes, compared with placebo. The highest concentrations of vitamin C in the body are found in the central nervous system (in neurons of the brain & spinal cord) and the adrenal glands. Although the presence of ascorbate in neurons is in part explained by its neuromodulatory enzyme activity, its high concentration suggests that vitamin C is so greatly retained by neurons in order to address the higher rates of oxidative metabolism experienced by the brain. This has led to the conclusion that under normal conditions, vitamin C helps safeguard the integrity of neurons (and therefore the brain), largely through neutralization of the free radicals of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Low levels of blood vitamin C and the resulting accumulation of ROS are thought to be detrimental—especially to aging populations.

Really?! Update!
I've been taking this brand of vitamin-C for about 7 years now, where I was able to buy 2 bottles (wish I had gotten more) of it about a year ago because it briefly dropped to under $7. During most of those years I've had a subscription for it while it was under $14, then about a week ago I got a notice it was out of stock, which is worrisome due to all the crappy vitamin C that's totally useless out here, but I had no choice and bought the Vit-C from a brand I've been using since the 70s for about the same cost Dr Best capsules are but they're tablets. So far my nose isn't runny (writing "runny" now reminded me of when I was a school kid asking my teacher could I get some tissues for my runny nose, he said in front of the class.. "you better start running after it now before it gets away"👃🏼🏃🏽♀️👀 I guess you had to be there.😩 Anyway, yeah, my nose isn't runny, I'm not uncontrollably sneezing and I'm not getting cold sores like it begins to do when I've tried other Vit-C brands other than Dr. Best, something I'm really relieved about AFTER seeing the huge hiked up price it's become now once back in stock! How can you do this to us?! $20?! So, ciao bella Best for NOW! UPDATE! About 2 weeks into using that other reliable brand of vitamin-c, the lymph nodes in my armpit began to swell and ache pretty bad, also an area of my gums became inflamed, as well, so I decided to look elsewhere for Doctor Best again, where I found it for $13, so even though I've since made doctor appointments for both issues I began to have, after 3 weeks of being back on Doctor's Best all the swelling, aching and gum inflammation has all but disappeared now! I'm just going to stock up on DB brand so that I don't run out again because it's a far more superior vitamin-c than even that expensive Liposomal type.
The Capsules Taste Baaaad
The vitamin c capsules are comparable in size to others on the market. Sometimes they go down without too much problem, other times it takes a couple tries. But the taste. Oh my word, they taste awful. I'm sure it's the gel of the capsule itself that has that taste. Takes a good bit for the flavor to fade from your pallet. I always take these first then the rest of my medications to help wash the taste away. Other than the flavor, I have no complaints about these Vitamin C caps.
Easy to swallow. No icky flavors
I normally buy Dr Berg's supplements but his vitamin c tastes terrible Big chunky bitter. I ordered these they're lovely I just swallow them! So it's nice.
Good stuff
I read a book on arthritis and it named this specific brand. I figured I would give them a try, well I will never try another brand. These are well packaged, they don't have a bunch of powder residue and they never have a foul smell. Great product!
