Great Smart Bulbs for Mom - Easy Setup, No Hub Needed!

I purchased this 8-pack of Govee Smart Light Bulbs for my mom as a Christmas gift, and the setup was incredibly easy. We simply added the bulbs to the Govee app on her phone, and then enabling the Govee skill in Alexa automatically discovered the new bulbs. The entire process took maybe ten minutes from start to finish. The integration with her Alexa speaker has been seamless. The bulbs offer normal brightness levels and a wide range of colors. Using Alexa voice commands, it's very straightforward to turn the lights on and off or change their color. While we haven't experimented with the music sync feature or the dynamic scenes, the basic color control through Alexa has been perfect for my mom's needs. We haven't experienced any issues with connectivity or reliability, except for the expected outage when the internet went down, which naturally affected Alexa's functionality. Having personally used Philips Hue bulbs for years, I was particularly impressed that these Govee bulbs don't require a separate hub, which made the setup for my mom much simpler. The value of this 8-bulb pack is outstanding – it cost roughly the same as a single Hue bulb and provides the same core functionality. Honestly, it makes my initial investment in Hue seem quite expensive in retrospect. My mom has these bulbs installed in her living room lamps and her bedroom. She typically keeps the living room lights on a bright white setting, but she enjoys changing the bedroom lights to red in the evening, as she finds it easier on her eyes. These Govee bulbs have been a fantastic and affordable way to add smart lighting to her home.

Love Govee Brand!

I really like this brand. I have several of their products. They connect very easily to the Internet. I do not have any issues with using their app and changing the color scheme. I use them outside, and they work and look great. They have held up with the weather without any issues. I like them because you can actually use the app and set timers for them. So they can be used as a dusk till dawn light if you wanted. You can very easily change the color/mode of the lights. Which makes them really nice during the holidays when you want to switch things up.

These work better than anything else I've tried

I have tried Phillips and GE smart bulbs, and some other brand I've never heard of, but I like these the best because they are easy to set up and they work well with Google Home. The GE bulbs I had previously worked OK for one user, but my wife and I both have Google accounts linked to our home devices, and only these Govee bulbs work every time for both of us. My only complaint would be that what these bulbs call 1% brightness is still relatively bright. Other brands have worked better as nightlights, but I still think Govee is the best because it works for both of us through Google Home.

Set the mood

Using 2 bulbs on my porch and 2 bulbs on my back deck. The color wheel in the app makes it easy to switch colors, temperature and brightness. (yellow shades don't translate that well) Even with a few limitations, there are plenty of other color options to choose from. They provide ambiance so I'm still happy with my purchase.

Easy to Setup with no disconnection issues compared to some other smart lights

This bulbs were easy to setup and connect to my Alexa app. There are multiple functions that the bulbs provide. Unlike other smart lights I have tried, these have never once randomly disconnected from my Wifi for me to go through the whole setup process again. As of now, there have never been issue with these smart lights and would I would recommend them.

Versatile and fun lighting from Govee that work great with Alexa

Again these Govee products shine! I hesitated for a year on buying these bulbs. I had read a couple of other reviews that said that they would not work fully with Alexa. That the colour changing options did not work through the app. But when they went back on sale, I thought I'd give them a go, and just use the app to do colour changes. In fact, I am pleased to say that they fully and easily integrated with Alexa and voila! Full colour and brightness controls are there. Nice. My previous experience with Govee products was with a few of the LED tape systems. And as with those, you are first impressed with the packaging, and instructions. You sense that Govee makes an effort to put forth a premium product and user interface. My next pleasant surprise was the brightness. The 8 standard LED bulbs that were in my living room ceiling fixtures were of "60 watt equivalent ". I don't know the lumen rating, but they surely were not bright enough. I expected not much better from these lamps, but hoped... When they fired up, the difference in light level was very significant. I'd say 30% or more. Perfect. So much so that I instantly ordered 10 more to illuminate our photo studio. An 1100 square foot room with 21 foot ceilings that also suffered from inadequate light levels. Again, perfect! And to now be able to ask Alexa to light them up in a range of colours and brightness adds so much to the rooms. Pick a colour, light level, and mood is set. The app is fairly straightforward. Well laid out, and going through the process with the Alexa app is a tick tedious if making large groups like I did, but no problem. It's once and done. One bit of a quibble is that the dimming percentage available is far from what you think it will be. Yes, you can set or ask for any percentage you like. But the lowest that they will dim in actuality is maybe 30% or so. While that could be better, these are still very highly recommended. Toss 'em in and enjoy!
